Product Description:

  • Amlodipine contains the active ingredient amlodipine, which belongs to a group of medicines called calcium blockers.

  • Amlodipine is used to treat high blood pressure ( hypertension ) or a special type of chest pain called angina , including a rare form called Prinzmetal's or variant angina.
  • In patients with high blood pressure, the medicine works by widening the blood vessels, so that blood passes more easily through them.
  • In patients with angina , Amlodipine works by improving the blood supply to the heart muscle, which thereby receives more oxygen so that chest pain is prevented.
  • The medicine does not provide immediate relief of chest pain from angina .

How TO Use:

  • Always use this medicine as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
  • Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
  • The recommended starting dose is 5 mg Amlodipine once daily.
  • The dose can be increased to 10 mg Amlodipine once a day.
  • The medicine can be taken before or after food and drink.
  • You should take this medicine at the same time each day with a glass of water.
  • Do not take Amlodipine with grapefruit juice.
  • Use of Amlodipine in children and adolescents

For children and adolescents (6-17 years):

  • The usual recommended starting dose is 2.5 mg daily.
  • The maximum recommended dose is 5 mg daily.
  • It is important to take the tablets without interruption.
  • Do not wait to see your doctor until you have run out of tablets.

If you take too much Amlodipine:

  • Contact a doctor, hospital or Poison Information.
  • If you have taken too much medicine or if a child has taken medicine by accident.
  • For other questions about the medicine, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Taking too many tablets can cause your blood pressure to become low and even dangerously low.
  • You may feel dizzy, light-headed, weak or weak.
  • If the drop in blood pressure is severe enough, shock can occur.
  • Your skin may feel cold and clammy and you may lose consciousness.
  • See a doctor immediately if you have taken too many Amlodipine tablets.

If you have forgotten to take Amlodipine:

  • Don't get worried.
  • If you forget to take a tablet, you can leave it out completely.
  • Take the next dose at the right time.
  • You must not take a double dose to replace a forgotten tablet.

If you stop treatment with Amlodipine:

  • Your doctor will tell you how long to take this medicine.
  • Your condition may return if you stop taking the medicine before you are advised to.
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about the use of this medicine.

Warnings And Precautions:

  • If you are allergic to amlodipine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, or to other calcium blockers.
  • This can cause itching, redness of the skin or breathing difficulties.
  • If you have severe low blood pressure ( hypotension ).
  • If you have a narrowing between the heart and the main artery (aortic stenosis) or cardiogenic shock (a condition where the heart is unable to supply the body with enough blood).
  • If you have heart failure after an acute heart attack .
  • Consult a doctor or pharmacist before using Amlodipine.

You must inform your doctor if you have or have had any of the following conditions:

  • Recent heart attack .
  • Heart failure.
  • Severe increase in blood pressure (hypertensive crisis).
  • Liver disease.
  • If you are older and it is necessary to increase the dose.
