Mechanism Of Action Of Hyoscine

  • Its anticholinergic action exerts a smooth-muscle relaxing/spasmolytic effect. Blockade of the muscarinic receptors in the GI tract is the basis for its use in the treatment of abdominal pain secondary to cramping.

Therapeutic Indications Of Scopinal Tablets

  • Hyoscine butyl bromide is used to treat cramps (spasms) of the stomach, intestines, and bladder.
  • It may be used to stop spasms before radiology imaging

Undesirable Side Effects Of Scopinal Tablets

  • Serious side effects: Eye problems: pain and vision loss
  • Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Increased heart rate
  • Other side effects include: difficulty passing urine, constipation, sweating, and blurred vision.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Scopinal Tablets

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Non-Pharmacological Treatments & Advice To Reduce Gases

  • Eat and drink slowly. Taking your time can help you swallow less air. Try to take your meals in relaxed occasions; eating when you're stressed or on the run increases the air you swallow.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks. They release carbon dioxide gas.
  • Skip the gum and hard candy. When you chew gum or suck on hard candy, you swallow more often than normal. Part of what you're swallowing is air.
  • Don't smoke. When you inhale smoke, you also inhale and swallow air.
  • Check your dentures. Poorly fitting dentures can cause you to swallow excess air when you eat and drink.
  • Get moving. It may help to take a short walk after eating.
  • Treat heartburn. For occasional, mild heartburn, over-the-counter antacids or other remedies may be helpful. GERD may require prescription-strength medication or other treatments.
